I've started a new blog with a new look and feel. This one was getting tired and not as user friendly so we're moving to a new location. Check out:

By The Way
Oh, by the way... for anyone who has not seen me recently, I feel as big as a whale. I feel like I'm much bigger for 6+ months this time around than with Ashley, and I still have 2 1/2 months left. Yikes! I won't scare you with any pictures. Also, this little boy is vicious. He's been kicking me so hard that it brings tears to my eyes. Double yikes. I hope this isn't an indication of what the labor and delivery will be like. Gulp.
Snow Day
Kevin and I had a snow day today. We got a couple of inches of snow overnight last night, and it was really pretty to watch. Kevin and I both had planned vacation days today anyway, so it was nice to wake up and know that we didn't have to go to work. Kevin decided to brave the roads (they were fine) to drop Ashley off at daycare, so that we could run some errands and get things done around the house that are hard to do with a 2 year old in tow. Ashley was really excited about going to school to see her teachers and friends. I think she was sick of being around us for so many days in a row!
When Kevin got home, we had a nice leisurely breakfast, checked our email, and then headed out. Ashley managed to lose a mitten while we were at the zoo last weekend, so we went on what ended up being a multi-store quest to find some new mittens for her. Neither Target nor Kohls had ANY toddler mittens at all... they were completely out. Excuse me, but the last time I checked, there are still 3 more months of snowy Ohio weather ahead of us!?! Who in the world doesn't have mittens in stock on January 2nd? Anyway, after some searching, we found mitens and a matching hat at The Children's Place. She also needs new snow boots -- they didn't have any at Target, and I'm not looking forward to tracking some down. That may have to be an online search.
In other news, our new "wood" floor for the basement has arrived. Most of you are aware that we're fixing up part of our basement into a playroom for Ashley. The flooring that was down there was original to the house, so it was time to update it. We found some really cool peel-and-stick wood laminate flooring that looks amazing. Perfect for a basement. So, Kevin's down there right now peeling and sticking his little heart out. :o) Pics to come, I'm sure.
Ashley somehow managed to cut her finger while helping her daddy, and she refuses to put a band-aid on it. She's sitting next to me wimpering that it hurts. I don't doubt that it does. I just think it's funny that she won't allow me to do anything to help it get better... stubborn child. She gets that from her dad...
Well, hope the first day back to school/work for you all was good. For those few lucky ones that didn't have to go to work today, I hope you enjoyed the snow. Have a great night!

Relaxing Year End Break
Are you enjoying the holidays? Ours are going way too fast, but they've been great so far. Since we haven't posted anything in (ah-hem) a very long time, I'll give you the shortened version of the last few weeks. Ashley really got into Christmas decorating this year. She loved helping to decorate the tree and add lights around the house. She also had a ton of fun helping to bake and decorate Christmas cookies. They turned out pretty good, and our little family managed to eat 2-dozen cookies in the course of a week. Work was really hectic leading up to the holidays, so we were all looking forward to having the time between Christmas and New Year's off to relax a little and spend some time together.
We headed up to Minster on the 23rd and had our first Christmas party on Saturday night at Kevin's Grandma Meyer's house. There are 7 great-grandkids now, and of course the evening was semi-organized chaos. They had a blast playing with all of the gifts that Santa brought them. The next day, Ashley went shopping with my mom and dad, while Kevin and I relaxed over at Jon & Barb's house. The Meyer's are a new proud owner of a Wii, so much of the holidays were spent perfecting the new gaming system. We had "bowling tournament" on Sunday night that was a ton of fun. On Christmas Eve, we lounged around during the day and prepared for our hectic evening. With 2 parties to go to, the evening is always a little crazy. We spent a couple of hours at Kevin's Grandma/pa Simon's house, and then headed over to my uncle Tom's house to spend some time with the Barhorst clan.
And then SANTA came! Ashley really got into Christmas and Santa this year, much more than we expected. Thankfully, Grandma and Grandpa Barhorst remembered to tell Santa how to get to their house, so Ashley had some presents to open on Christmas morning before we went to church. We spent the rest of the morning and part of the afternoon at Jon & Barb's opening gifts and hanging out. The rest of the day was spent at my mom and dad's, eating and opening presents... hmmm, nice theme going on, isn't there? The day was really nice and went too fast.We came back to Cincinnati on the 26th (Happy Kwanzaa), and we've been hanging out since then. Kevin's been doing a lot of work in the basement and in the baby's room. I've been doing lots of organizing and catching up on small odds and end chores around the house. Aaron and Nicole Bricker drove to Cincy on Saturday afternoon, so we got to go to the Festival of Lights with them, which was a lot of fun. Yesterday, we didn't leave the house at all... so sad, but sooo wonderful!
Do you all have exciting plans for New Year's Eve? Ours will be very low key. We just plan to hang out, eat and maybe play some games. Kerri and Dave are coming over, and maybe whoever else stops by. Certainly nothing too exciting, but the perfect way to ring in the new year if you ask me.
Well, HAPPY NEW YEAR! Wishing you all a healthy, wealthy and happy 2008!

It's Winter
There are a few things on my mind tonight.
1) It snowed here today
2) I had to mow this evening (see #1)
3) Work is as busy as it's ever been and I'm tired
4) I'm getting over a cold
5) I wish I could have tomorrow off like Jenni and Ashley do
6) Fall never showed up
7) It snowed here today
OK, that's my current state of mind but here are a few updates...
Jenni and Ashley headed up to Minster this evening. Jenni's middle sister, Kira, gets married this weekend so the girls are pitching in. I'm headed up tomorrow with Candise's husband, Dave. I'm looking forward to the weekend. A coworker told me today that every weekend feels like a vacation. Duh.
Ashley surprises us everyday. One night this week Jenni gave Ashley a snack after work. When the snack is a granola bar or something else messy we keep Ashley off of the couch. As usual Ashley tried climbing up on the couch and Jenni told her "Ashley, no snacks on the couch, remember?" And instead of hopping off like normal, she rattled off the following... "But daddy does" Our mouths hung open for a second. I guess we have some work to do...
After this weekend, I'll try to post some photos of Ashley in her flowergirl get-up.

My Coffee
Kevin and I wanted to take advantage of the great fall weather we're having, so we took Ashley to the park this afternoon. It was pretty windy outside. Not cold, but enough to feel chilly if you weren't in the direct sun. When we got back to the truck, we decided to get something toasty to warm up. We have a Starbucks close to our house, and we knew they had hot apple cider (for me) and hot chocolate (for Ashley). When we placed our order, Kevin decided he just wanted black coffee. Anyway, we went into their back room and found a place to sit. Ashley was being very "independent," and she didn't want help with anything. She almost knocked over her hot chocolate, so Kevin moved it out of the way for her. She did NOT like him touching her drink. She grabbed it out of his hand and said, "That's MY coffee." Neither of us knew that she was such a big coffee drinker. :o)
